It’s that time again Halifax. Property tax assessments were mailed out yesterday.
For me, as for many of you, there is a ritual involved. When we open our mailbox, and see that larger than average envelop with the Halifax Regional Municipality logo on it, we just know what’s inside. So we hold our breath, rip the seal apart, and hope there is no big surprise inside.
As properties increase in value, it is natural that so would our property assessment. Faced with an increase, homeowners often wonder if they should appeal the assessment. What are the houses around you selling for? What are your neighbours’ property assessments? How do you know if your assessment is fair without answers to these questions?
Unfortunately until now, access to such information has been limited and often difficult to find. Today, that is all changing.
Service Nova Scotia and Property Valuations Services Corporation (PVSC) announced a new service on their website that will allow the public to see their property assessment FREE of charge. As a BIG BONUS, prices of properties sold from July 2010 and on will also be available online.
Knowledge is power. With the launch of the revamped website pvsc.ca, you will now have access to the information you need whether you are thinking of selling your home, or appealing your property assessment. Easy to navigate, this website will allow you to access valuable information that will help you in your decision making process.
